Set of 20 Paper Lithographed on Wood Palmer Cox Brownie Puzzle Blocks Mc Laughlin Bros. NY circa 1891
This is a scarce complete set of 6 different Brownie puzzles in their original wood box. I have included a photo of the top puzzle (skating) and pictures of one of the other scenes that can be made (The Dance). The other puzzles include 'Hauling the Yule Log', 'Christmas Dinner', 'Snowballing' and 'Blindman's Bluff'.. Each has a different colour of border to help you solve the puzzle. Colorful lithographed pictures are attached to each side of the 20 wooden blocks. Palmer Cox was born in 1840 near the Scottish settlement of Granby Quebec. Like many others, he left for the States after his school years to seek fame and fortune, returning to his Granby home in the last years of his life. For the first five years, advertising for the new Kodak Brownie camera featured the little characters created by Cox. ( He was not reimbursed for the use of his brownies).
